The Emporium Hotel is located at the southern end of Grey Street’s Southpoint, which is a $600 million mixed use master-planned development by the highly acclaimed Brisbane based developer Anthony John Group.
The Southpoint development features a new boutique flagship 142-suite Emporium Hotel, A-Grade commercial office space and an estimated $40 million, 4500sqm retail and dining plaza.
The electrical and communications contractor Perigon, appointed Madison Technologies to provide an integrated communications network to support their communication requirements, specifically with the GPON network.
Madison Technologies adapted carrier grade GPON equipment and successfully deployed a secure and smart integrated network to create a smart building.
By designing and installing a converged fibre backbone we were able to save kilometers of copper cable, hours of onsite labour, achieve a saving in precious space in risers and racks, energy from reduced active hardware; whilst all the while increasing the customer experience through seamless wired and wireless connectivity. Madison Technologies and
Perigon were able to realise the goal of implementing a smart building integrated infrastructure, which will be integral in Southpoint Southbank successfully evolving over time and continuing to exceed the guest experience for years to come.
Project Achievements / Outcomes :
Real estate requirements were reduced by up to 90%
- The bulk of the Category 6 cables required was dramatically reduced – this is better for the environment !
- Traditionally multiple Category 6 cabled were run to each hotel room or open area where replaced by one single fibre cable to each hotel room or open area.
- Space required for bulky cable trays in the roof space was dramatically reduced.
Less communications risers cupboards / racks.
- Traditional Category 6 ethernet cabling would required 1 x 45RU active communications rack per floor.
- GPON cabling solutions only require 1 x 45RU active communications rack for the active equipment for the building.
Contractor installation timed was reduced by 50%.
- Because less labour was required, to install less communications equipment.
IT electricity consumption was reduced by up to 70%.
- There is less IT equipment required when comparing to traditional Category 6 ethernet equipment.
