Australia’s biggest hotel operator The Accor Group has struck an agreement with BRW Rich Listers Brian and Peggy Flannery to bring the $100 million Elements of Byron boutique hotel development under its MGallery Collection brand.
The $100m, 2km beachfront resort, with a reserve of littoral rainforest and natural lakes and ponds. opened on February 3, 2016, after six years of planning, design and development.
The landmark Elements of Byron project is on a 20ha site at Belongil Beach and is privately owned by KTQ Developments managing director Peggy Flannery, who paid $18.5m for the site in 2009.
It has 193 individual one and two-bedroom villas and is set to inspire wealthy tourists to visit the area, driving plenty of money into the Byron economy.
The communications was provided in part by Superloop an Australian Telecommunications company.
As this is a resort-style property with bountiful space between the dwellings, Superloop decided on 1GB GPON, (Gigabit Passive Optical Networking).
Project Achievements / Outcomes :
GPON is used by some of the largest Telco’s in the world for connecting large numbers of sites over an optical network with much of the equipment being of a passive (non-powered) nature.
This allowed Superloop to create a fibre backbone to each of the 103 private villas as well as a number of other areas.
This allows Superloop a migration path to 10GB in the future or even greater speeds such as 25GB or 50GB (much further on the GPON horizon), something not possible with a traditional cabling solution.
Superloop is an independent provider of connectivity services designing, constructing and operating networks throughout the Asia Pacific metro region.
Superloop first published Elements of Byron article on July 2016.
